UN Resident Coordinator of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea
Ghulam Isaczai (centre), UN Resident Coordinator of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, briefs his UN colleagues on humanitarian aid and development work carried by the UN in the country during a recent mission to the Republic of Korea.

The UN Resident Coordinator of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Gulam Isaczai gave a briefing to his UN colleagues during a week-long mission to the Republic of Korea (ROK) last week. The briefing was attended by staff members of ESCAP East and North-East Asia Office and other UN offices in Incheon, ROK.

 
Mr. Isaczai, after being introduced by Dr. Kilaparti Ramakrishna, Director, ESCAP ENEA Office as a colleague having worked in a range of challenging positions around the world such as Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan, introduced the six UN offices operating in Pyongyang, including UNICEF, WHO, UNDP and WFP. He briefly touched on the major projects, processes and challenges in the country. Some of the areas of work by UN include humanitarian aid, development; energy and environment projects as well as disaster risk reduction. Mr. Isaczai stressed the need for strong commitment and close collaboration in the next Strategic Framework with involvement of non-resident UN offices.
